Ahead of today’s SmackDown, we see a video recap of all the highlights from the six-man tag team match between the Bloodline and RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre, which went down in favor of Roman Reigns and the Usos at WrestleMania Backlash.

Afterwards, Michael Cole and Pat McAfee give us a warm welcome. We hear the theme of the RAW Tag Team Champions – Randy Orton and Riddle, RK-Bro, making their way to the ring. The two pose with their belts on the turnbuckles to loud cheers before Orton finally accepts a microphone.
Loud “Randy” chants fill the arena, then Orton welcomes the local fans once again to SmackDown. He and Riddle are finally fed up with chasing the Usos and accusing them of not being able to make their own decisions. Only Roman Reigns will do this. Riddle pays his respects to Reigns and apologizes for taking the loss for his team. But he’s noticed that whenever the Usos get stuck, Roman Reigns takes on the dirty work for them. Accordingly, Randy Orton now announces that he wants to become “Undisputed Tag Team Champions” with Riddle and calls on Reigns to come to the hall!
But Reigns’ Theme isn’t the one that starts playing. Instead, Sami Zayn shows up wearing a Bloodline t-shirt. Don’t they know how things work on SmackDown, he asks? You can’t just snap your fingers and get what you want. According to Zayn, no one wants to see a unification event in the SmackDown Locker Room — and if it did, Riddle and Orton would lose anyway. So Zayn suggests the champions return to RAW without having accomplished anything.
But Orton is pretty unimpressed. After all, he wanted to see Roman Reigns and not the self-proclaimed “Locker Room Leader”. Zayn doesn’t want to threaten the Tag Champs, but reiterates that she shouldn’t disrespect Roman Reigns. When asked by Orton if Zayn actually has any say in the Bloodline, Zayn, after some fidgeting, confirms that he does – even though he doesn’t have an official title. Therefore, Orton calls on Zayn to take on Riddle and if the latter wins, a match for the title defense would be made official. He would make some people very happy with that! “Rusty” chants again and Zayn finally confirms that the match will happen. But there’s a catch: This match can’t take place today, he claims. He wants to speak to Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman first. That in turn calls Adam Pearce on the scene! The General Manager schedules a match between Sami Zayn and Riddle which will open tonight’s show.

singles match
Riddle (w/ Randy Orton) defeated Sami Zayn via pinfall after Bro Derek.
Match time: 10:25
– Zayn went for the DDT from the middle rope right in front of Orton but couldn’t get it through. A little later, Riddle landed the power slam typical of Orton against Zayn and brought through the DDT himself.
– Zayn also failed to defeat Riddle by countout like he had done with Nakamura. Immediately following Riddle’s return to the ring, he landed his finisher.

After the match, we see that the Bloodline watched the match from backstage. The Usos are upset that RK-Bro aren’t showing them the respect they deserve and announce they’ll have their answer later tonight.

A commercial break follows. Then we see Sami Zayn, who Shinsuke Nakamura makes fun of backstage.

Continuing with the new SmackDown Women’s Champion, Ronda Rousey, who defeated Charlotte in an I Quit match at Backlash. She admits that Charlotte has been one of her toughest opponents to date and announces that she wants to be a Fighting Champion. Therefore, she is opening an Open Challenge for her newly won title here and now! Who wants to make history tonight? It’s Raquel Rodriguez! Easily half a head taller, Rodriguez confronts Rousey and formally introduces himself and accepts her challenge. It’s an honor for her to step in the ring with a legend like Ronda Rousey, but tonight she’ll make history!

singles match
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Ronda Rousey (c) beat Raquel Rodriguez via pinfall after a roll-up.
Match time: 05:59
– The match was dominated for long stretches by the challenger, who presented herself well.

Ronda offers Raquel a handshake after the match, which she accepts. The two pay their respects to each other before heading backstage.

Shotzi complains to Adam Pearce backstage that Raquel allegedly sidestepped her from behind the gorilla position, thereby denying her a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Aliyah, in turn, claims Shotzi locked her in her dressing room…

We see some staff carrying the André the Giant Memorial Trophy to the ring. After another commercial break, Kayla Braxton invites Battle Royale winner Madcap Moss into the ring. He’s not long in coming and, in a good mood as always, goes into the arena. Kayla asks him about his recent big win against Happy Corbin and promptly the highlights of their match are played on Backlash. Moss says Corbin is a tough opponent who can really bring you down with his terrible personality. But he finally defeated this “Big Bald Wolf”! When asked what’s next, Moss says his career has only just begun. Next, he wants to get the coveted suitcase from Money in the Bank, but he doesn’t get much further with the explanation of his plans, as he is suddenly struck down with a chair by Happy Corbin! Again and again Corbin, who doesn’t seem so happy today, attacks him with the chair before locking Madcap’s neck in the chair. He grabs the trophy and smashes it on the chair! Immediately, Moss is examined in the ring while Corbin makes off contentedly. A stretcher is wheeled in, Moss gets a neck brace in the ring and is finally transported away.

Before the next tag team match, we see a short segment before Moss is hoisted into the ambulance. Corbin makes fun of him with a bad joke and disappears in high spirits.

Tag team match
Sasha Banks & Naomi defeated Natalya & Shayna Baszler via pinfall after Naomi rolled up Natalya.
Match time: 08:37
– The roll-up to victory came from a counter to Natalya’s Sharpshooter.

Backstage we see Drew Gulak and WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet. This encourages Gulak to keep his head up because if he gave up he wouldn’t have become champion. Only he himself can find his way, he explains. He resolves to put Gunther in his place the next time he meets him… and he bumps into him around the next corner. Ludwig Kaiser asks him what exactly he wanted to do with him, before Gunther finally snails him with some hard chops while audible “Walter” chants are heard.

singles match
Butch (w/ Sheamus & Ridge Holland) defeated Kofi Kingston (w/ Xavier Woods) via pinfall after the bitter end.
Match time: 08:21
– Pat McAfee couldn’t identify Butch’s finisher – a bit strange, especially since Butch had already used the bitter end as a finishing move as Pete Dunne on NXT UK.

Butch disappears straight through the crowd after his win, leaving Sheamus and Ridge Holland in the ring at a loss. After the replays of the match are shown, he returns to the stage and triumphs there with his colleagues.

Sami Zayn discusses backstage with Paul Heyman. He wants to speak to Roman Reigns personally to make his intention clear, arguing that RK-Bro taunted the Bloodline. He also wants to make sure Reigns isn’t mad at him. Heyman assures Zayn that the “Tribal Chief” appreciates him.

The evening’s final commercial break follows, then Roman Reigns and The Usos enter the hall, accompanied by Paul Heyman. Michael Cole reminds us that Reigns has been the Universal Champion for 622 days, while the Usos have reigned as SmackDown Tag Team Champions for 298 days.
After the Bloodline’s entrance, which was just as long, Roman Reigns grabs the microphone and starts his promo with the well-known catchphrase: “Acknowledge me!” Usually Reigns and the Usos flatten their opponents on Sunday and then ask on Friday who’s next . But this time everything is different. What will the Usos do with the challenge ahead?
We don’t get the answer directly because RK-Bro apparently want to witness the decision live. Randy Orton and Riddle make their second appearance tonight and enter the ring. Randy Orton jumps right in with an announcement: John Cena is a superstar ten times the size of Roman Reigns! Riddle talks about rewatching Backlash’s six-man tag team match and challenges the Bloodline again to the title unification match. Since, according to Orton, the bloodline shares a brain, Orton repeats the whole thing slowly and clearly: in the end there should only be one tag team championship, one undisputed tag team championship. The Usos accept the challenge and the match is scheduled to take place next Friday on SmackDown! Roman Reigns is excited they will end up with six belts, but Riddle knee strikes Reigns and then Orton leaves the ring! RK-Bro triumphantly retire, and that concludes tonight’s edition of SmackDown.
