Benefits of the ABUS WiFi pan/tilt outdoor camera
Disadvantages of the ABUS WiFi pan/tilt outdoor camera
Testing the ABUS WLAN pan/tilt outdoor camera – design and features
The WLAN pan-tilt outdoor camera from ABUS has a robust and high-quality design. We noticed this in the test when unpacking the camera.
It receives electricity directly from the cable. Battery operation is not intended. Although this makes it necessary to have a socket nearby, it also avoids having to change the battery, which is often seen as a nuisance with surveillance cameras.
As the name of this ABUS surveillance camera suggests, it impresses with a large detection area: 270 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically, which together corresponds to a coverage of 340 degrees. Images are captured in Full HD. Numerous network protocols are supported, including TCP/IP, UDP, SMTP, NTP, DHCP and ARP.
The recordings are saved locally using a micro SD card. Practical: A memory card with a size of 8 GB is already inserted at the factory. However, users can alternatively use a larger micro SD card of up to 128 GB.
In order to be able to start directly, we classified the 8 GB card in the test as completely sufficient and a nice addition. Due to the local storage, the data does not get into the cloud and there are no subscription costs for storage, as is the case with some competing products.
Also good: The tools and materials required for assembly are already included in the scope of delivery, so that this is easy to do. In our test, too, the ABUS WLAN pan-tilt outdoor camera was in place in a very short time.
ABUS outdoor camera – special features and functions in the test
In the ABUS pan-tilt outdoor camera test, the surveillance camera scored particularly well with its reliable motion detection. This reduces annoying false alarms and users can set different sensitivities.
The ABUS outdoor camera knows how to distinguish people, animals and vehicles. Users are informed about relevant events via push message or e-mail. Branches that are moved by the wind or the neighbor’s cat will no longer trigger an alarm.
Images from the ABUS pan-tilt outdoor camera were clearly recognizable in our test. The photos are in color during the day and black and white at night. Nevertheless, details were not washed out in the dark and content was clear. According to the manufacturer, the night vision is up to 20 meters.
Using the app, users can set different positions or vary the angle of rotation of the camera in all directions by swiping on their smartphone or tablet. The response time of the recording is very fast, so that it starts three seconds before the actual event.
Other special features of the ABUS WLAN pan/tilt outdoor camera
Privacy zones & ring buffer function: When operating a surveillance camera, users should respect their privacy. The rule is that people may not be filmed without their knowledge.
In the test, we liked the fact that ABUS takes this into account with several functions. Because zones can be hidden and settings can be made so that movements are only detected in certain areas. This is the case, for example, when the inner courtyard is filmed but the camera should not take any pictures of the people on the neighboring property opposite.
To do this, users must use a square to mark the areas where the camera should focus their attention. These settings worked well in our ABUS WLAN pan and tilt camera test.
As a further advantage, we rated the possibility of the ring memory function in the test. This means that video data is automatically deleted after three, seven or 30 days. In addition, audio recording can be deactivated in accordance with DSGVO.
intercom function: We rate the intercom function of the surveillance camera as a further extra. Although they offer more and more surveillance cameras, we still want to list them as an advantage in the test. After all, with the ABUS WLAN tilt and swivel outdoor camera, users not only increase security, but also convenience. Instead of having to pick up the parcel at the nearest packing station when you are absent, a storage location can be agreed upon directly with the postman.
weatherproof: As a camera for outdoor use, this model offers particular resistance to all types of weather. It is protected against dust and strong water jets according to IP66. In addition to intense rain, it also withstands intense sunlight and wind.
Installation and setup of the ABUS WLAN pan-tilt outdoor camera
The ABUS outdoor camera can be set up in just a few minutes and was quick and very easy in our test.
We consider it practical that the necessary tools are already included in the scope of delivery, the wall bracket is pre-assembled and a micro SD card is already inserted upon delivery.
In order for the commissioning to succeed, users should download the ABUS App2Cam Plus (Android | iOS) in advance.
In addition, the ABUS WLAN pan-tilt outdoor camera requires a power outlet nearby. The black camera cover on the side should be opened and the antenna screwed on.
It only takes 7 steps to set up and assemble:
- Connect ABUS outdoor camera to power.
- Scan the QR code on the camera with the ABUS App2Cam Plus app.
- Decide whether to set up via Wifi or Bluetooth. We recommend Bluetooth because it works quickly
- Find and select the camera as a new device.
- Enter WiFi data and follow further installation instructions.
- The setup is complete, individual settings are now possible. This includes the field of view or the optimization of object recognition.
- If you have not already done so, select the final location for the camera and attach it according to the instructions.
What is the ABUS WiFi pan/tilt outdoor camera compatible with?
This ABUS model is compatible with the Smartvest radio system. This means that the surveillance camera can also be connected to other Smartvest components and thus function as part of a complete ABUS alarm system. However, there is no compatibility with ABUS Wapploxx.
Voice control via Alexa or Google Assistant is also not provided. The transfer of the images to an Echo Show, for example, does not work either.
