- Ready-made sauce, ready-made dressing, ready-made fried potatoes – and done with your nerves!
- At “Rosins Restaurants” a culinary, but also human drama took place.
- Frank Rosin “feeled like crying” in this Kabel-Eins episode.
It’s always worse: “Culinary the most blatant number I’ve ever experienced!”, Attested Frank Rosin restaurant operator Doro. The trained horse manager did not only push the TV chef to his limits in terms of taste. For a long time it was questionable whether the nerves of Mr. Rosin and/or Doros Dortmunder “Gaststätte” (that’s the name of the tennis club restaurant) would survive this episode of “Rosin’s Restaurants”.
The initial situation was devastating: the “tavern” yielded so little that 46-year-old Doro also had to go cleaning at night. Of course, that sapped her strength: “Sometimes I cry because I’m so powerless!” The greeting was all the more effusive when the man from the TV showed up in the modest sports bar. But then it got down to business: Doro was supposed to feed 25 test eaters, she only had an hour to prepare.
Partner Darius and son Benjamin (apprenticeship in hotel management) were quickly organized to help, but Doro was not really into teamwork. The restaurateur preferred to do everything alone – but more badly than right: “Why don’t you get help?” Frank Rosin asked. “They don’t know anything about cooking!” Doro replied. “Neither do you!” Was the devastating verdict of the star chef. After an encounter with Doro’s meatballs, however, he expressed himself even more drastically: “When I bite a pig’s ass – that’s how it tastes!”
Frank Rosin: “Why can’t I approach this job with respect?”
The preparations for the test meal were visibly and audibly wearing on the nerves of the prominent Dorstener: “There’s still a giant tendon on it, that’s not chewable!”, he exclaimed when Doro was working on a piece of meat. And further: “Why can’t I approach this job with respect? This ‘Oh, anyone can do that!’ – this is getting on my nerves! I can’t take it anymore!”
The starter finally fell flat, and the test eaters also had to bring a lot of slack for the main course: “The worst thing that can happen is that the announcement comes that the main course is also missing!”, they joked. After a good hour, the first plates left Doro’s kitchen, which was now in total chaos. And the feedback? Modest. Far too many ready-made products – the guests noticed that straight away. A disaster!
One of the hardest cases at “Rosin’s Restaurants”
“She’s exhausted, I’m really sorry too!” Rosin explained after Doro had stormed out into the fresh air. “I believe you immediately that you’re a great woman and only want the best!”, he hugged her. “But that’s not going to get us any further! And don’t cry!” He would have preferred to do it himself: “This is the most blatant culinary number I’ve ever experienced!”
There were two and a half stars from the test eaters, but Rosin grunted in: “I won’t give you half that!” He explained. “For me it wasn’t even two stars! What I saw yesterday is hopeless for me! The fact is: It can’t go on like this!” Doro looked for excuses, but Rosin remained merciless: “You treat your wish with a kick in the ass every day! Take care of it! No, you go cleaning in the evening!”
Again the restaurateur fled crying. “I know I’m provoking this now, but we have to provoke it now!” announced Rosin Doro’s son and her partner. “I’m here as a consultant. I’m sorry that she’s crying, but she has to come to the realization!” Benjamin could only agree with him: “These are harsh words, but it’s the truth – and she has to understand it at some point!”
Doro faces a “long way”.
So what to do? Decorator Flo got the best out of Doro’s mini-kitchen, while Rosin the cook took on the task: practice recipes! And then it was essential to work on internal family communication: “It can’t be that your son says something and you don’t notice it, because a lot of what he says is also true!” said Rosin, the asked mother and son to a table. “I was brought up that way. My mom didn’t have that much contact with me. My dad killed himself!” Doro revealed. “It’s hard for me to talk about feelings. I feel sorry for the children!” But she promised to listen more to the hotel trainee in the future.
On the final day, Doro finally accepted the help of her men, but everything seemed to be going wrong. When Doro also put meatballs in schnitzel fat, the star chef freaked out again: “I can’t do that! I can’t do that… What are you doing there?” he screamed and the cook cried. Eventually he felt compelled to intervene.
“You’re a chaos queen, you create chaos because you don’t adopt the plan! If I hadn’t helped today, it would have hit the wall!” He explained to the dissolved 46-year-old. Meanwhile, the test eaters ate contentedly. After all! Rosin’s conclusion: “It’s a long journey and it starts now!”
