Researcher Appearance of Aue-Trainer Rost: “I’m not the one who nods!”
By Thomas Nahrendorf
Aue – Pavel Dotchev (56) 2015, Thomas Letsch (53) 2017, Daniel Meyer (42) 2018, Aleksey Shpilevski (34) 2021: It has almost become a cherished tradition that the FC Erzgebirge Aue will present its new trainers for the upcoming season in June. The series continued on Wednesday. Now Timo Rost (43) should lead the club to new successes – say back to the 2nd league – to lead.

His first official act went into depth. He entered the shaft in Bad Schlema. He looked at the working world of the miners underground. After that he rose again. This is exactly what the 43-year-old intends to do with the violets.
Rost greeted the crowd with “Glück Auf” and made a bold, extremely self-confident appearance without overreacting.
“For me it was crucial that the club committed to a fresh start. We want to bring the DNA back to the Ore Mountains. I think it’s important that I can bring my coaching team from Bayreuth. We don’t lose a lot of time that way,” said Rost Reason why he chose Aue despite several offers. “It’s a small team of coaches, but one with quality.”

Also means that the FCE is really looking for a completely new start. The old pigtails are cut off. Sports director Pavel Dotchev, assistant coach Marc Hensel (36), athletics coach Marco Kampf (50) and goalkeeper coach Daniel Haas (38) have to leave FC Erzgebirge Aue.

New to the coaching team are Tomislav Piplica (53, goalkeeper), Michael Gehret (41, athletics) and Oliver Goergiev (assistant coach/video analyst). Aue does not want to fill the post of sports director again for the time being, but rather spread it over several shoulders. “We have good people in our own ranks,” said President Helge Leonhardt (63).
“I want to put together a team for the people here who are hungry,” Rost promised on the subject of squad composition. The coach left open who can stay or who is coming, but explained very offensively that he will not let himself be talked into the composition.
“When the president says, ‘Watch out, Timo. I want that one player’.” But he doesn’t fit my profile. Then I’m not a coach, as maybe one or the other was who nods. That will not happen with a Timo Rost. Then Timo Rost will soon be a coach somewhere else. The President knows that.”

Success takes time: let rust do it!

Since September 2014, this was my ninth coaching performance at FC Erzgebirge Aue. It must also be mentioned that there were no press conferences for Marc Hensel and later Pavel Dotchev in the past season. They came and went again. So there are eleven in total.
Two coaches have started and ended a season in these almost eight years. Dotchev 2015/16 and Daniel Meyer 2018/19. That alone shows the problem in Aue. Everyone came with the claim to shape an era, to establish themselves permanently. For various reasons, nobody made it. There was never any continuity in the club’s most important sporting position. The trainer’s chair always had three legs from the start. He already wobbled at the idea. Now Timo Rost can try it.
The 43-year-old also comes with the intention of staying longer and building something in Aue. Now the notoriously restless club management has to show that they have the patience to let him work and give him time. Success cannot be planned, but it can be developed. The club management must have his back. Not only now, but also with the first wobbles.
The goal is to get back up. But if it only comes in two years, then so be it. Success should be long-term, not short-lived. Rost proved exactly that in Bayreuth. There they let him do it.
