After several weeks of leaks, Oppo has finally unveiled its Reno8 series. The base model brings a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset and 80W fast charging, the Pro model debuts Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, and the Pro+ comes with a Dimensity 8100+ processor.
All three phones have AMOLED displays, 50 megapixel main cameras and 4,500 mAh batteries with 80 watt SuperVOOC charging support. The Pro variants add additional features to the cameras and Oppo’s in-house Mari X Silicon NPU, which can also be found in the flagship Oppo Find X5 Pro.
The top dog Reno8 Pro+ has a 6.7 inch 120 Hz OLED display with a punch hole for the 32 megapixel selfie camera. The front camera on the Pro+ also has autofocus, a feature that is still extremely rare in the smartphone world. The bezels are extremely thin at 2.37 mm at the top and bottom and are significantly narrower at 1.4 mm at the sides. According to Oppo, they are the thinnest of all previous Reno models.
As for the chipset, Oppo has opted for the Dimensity 8100 Max in combination with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. On the back is the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor with 1/1.56-inch and 1.0 µm pixels as found on the Find X5 Pro. Oppo’s in-house MariSilicon X NPU ensures AI noise reduction and 4K Ultra Night Video. The second camera on the back shoots 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shots, while the third shoots two-megapixel macros. ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12 covers the software front.
The Oppo Reno8 Pro+ is available in grey, black and green colors. The base model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage costs 3,699 CNY (521 euros). 3,999 CNY (563 euros) are due for 12/256 GB. Open sale in China begins June 1st.
The Oppo Reno8 Pro is the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm’s brand new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. It is based on a 4 Nm process with a Kryo CPU cluster up to 2.4 GHz and an Adreno 662 GPU. Oppo also packs its Mari X Silicon NPU and the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and 2-megapixel macro camera as the Pro+ model into the body.
The 6.62-inch AMOLED display has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and also contains a 32-megapixel selfie camera, but without autofocus. The rest of the specs include ColorOS 12.1 running Android 12 and the 4,500mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging.
The Reno8 Pro is available in blue, black, and gradient colors with a base price of CNY2,999 for the 8/128GB model. 8/256 GB are 3,199 CNY (450 euros) and 12/256 GB are 3,499 CNY (492 euros). Open sale in China begins June 11.
That leaves the entry-level class: The Reno8 starts at 2,499 CNY (352 euros) for 8/128 GB and goes up to 2,999 CNY (422 euros) for the 12/256 GB model. It is based on a 90 Hz AMOLED display with a size of 6.43 inches. On the back is the familiar 50-megapixel main camera alongside a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 2-megapixel macro camera.
It is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1300 chipset. The 4,500 mAh battery with 80 watt charging and ColorOS 12.1 are also on board here. The Reno8 goes on sale on June 1st.
