New integrated amplifier with MDC2 module technology in the 1,500 euro class

NAD C389: New integrated amplifier with MDC2 module technology in the 1,500 euro class

As the little brother of the recently introduced new flagship integrated amplifier of the Classic series, the C399, the C389 has largely the same design and equipment features as the larger models. Numerous analog and digital inputs, including an HDMI eARC connection, innovative HybridDigital power amplifiers and a high-resolution 32-bit / 384 kHz ESS Saber D/A converter make the C389 the versatile and sonorous center of any hi-fi system. Expected to be available from authorized retailers from September 2022

As the second NAD model, the C389 is also equipped with the latest generation of Modular Design Construction (MDC) technology. This concept, known as MDC2, allows the amplifier to be equipped with optional modules using rear-mounted slots that expand the functionality of the device and provide access to future technologies. The first MDC2 module called BluOS-D, which is available for an extra charge, creates the conditions for high-resolution BluOS multi-room music streaming and also has AirPlay2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Dirac Live room correction on board. In addition, the C389 can be integrated into numerous smart home control systems in conjunction with the MDC2 BluOS-D module.

According to the manufacturer, the HybridDigital output stages of the C389 mobilize a continuous output power of 2 x 130 watts and achieve impulse power peaks of up to 350 watts at 2?. The HybridDigital design is known for its wide bandwidth and stability under demanding low-impedance speaker loads.

The C389 has two optical and two coaxial digital inputs as well as an HDMI eARC connection for playing audio signals from a connected TV. This function is conveniently controlled via the remote control of the TV set. Analog fans get their money’s worth with two cinch high-level inputs and a high-quality phono stage for MM cartridges. The phono preamp is designed for precise RIAA equalization, extremely low noise and high headroom and also has an innovative circuit that is designed to suppress infrasound components without affecting bass reproduction. The high-level inputs are equipped with low-noise buffer amplifiers to avoid sonic degradation.

Music can be streamed wirelessly from a smartphone, tablet or computer in 24-bit resolution via Bluetooth aptX HD – Bluetooth headphones can also be controlled at the same time. The C389 also has preamp outputs and two subwoofer outputs as well as a headphone jack.
