Ratingen (ots) – Deutsche Bahn is re-equipping its long-distance transport division with mobile devices from HMD Global and is setting an example in the direction of sustainability: the Nokia phones and tablets sold to Deutsche Bahn will receive security updates for 4 years in order to have a longer life cycle grant. Additionally, HMD Global will plant over 100,000 trees in partnership with Ecolog as part of its “Let’s plant together” initiative.
HMD Global, the Home of Nokia Phones, has secured the contract for the modernization of mobile devices for employees of DB Fernverkehr AG (DB) in a manufacturer-neutral tender. In the first stage, HMD Global will deliver 12,000 Nokia X20 smartphones and 15,000 Nokia T20 tablets to DB. The Nokia phones and tablets are verified by Google “Android Enterprise Recommended” (AER) and are therefore recommended for professional use in companies. In order to extend the service life of the mobile devices, HMD Global provides monthly security updates and three software upgrades for four years.
One year extra security support
HMD Global was able to successfully assert itself against the competition in the DB tender. The decisive factor was the fulfillment of the defined requirements of business, users and IT. Contrary to what is customary in the industry, HMD Global offers security support for the devices not only for 36, but for up to 48 months.
DB and HMD Global have been working together for around two years. So far, the partnership has mostly related to the exchange of individual devices. The exchange of an entire “fleet of devices” marks a new milestone in the cooperation. With the Nokia T20, the mobility group has also opted for a new model on the market: “It is a great vote of confidence that DB employees can use our latest devices. Delivering devices worth five figures to Deutsche Bahn is something special.” , says Sebastian Ulrich, Director Global Business Enterprise at HMD Global.
Annually offset the operational emissions of 100,000 devices
When large-scale projects like this one are put out to tender, sustainability aspects are increasingly found in the list of requirements. HMD Global also had an answer for this.
Such a large number of handhelds consumes a lot of power. This in turn causes emissions. To counteract this, 100,000 trees will be planted as part of the project. On average, a tree binds 10 kilograms of CO2 per year, and a tablet causes around 10 kilograms of CO2 emissions during its use. Thus, with the 100,000 trees per year, the operational emissions of 100,000 mobile devices can be compensated.
Designed in Europe and secure connections
The Nokia T20 is a tablet with a 10.36″ 2K display, 8,200 mAh battery for seven hours of conference calls or 15 hours of online operation and Unisoc T610 processor (4 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM) for sufficient computing power. The memory can be expanded by up to 512 GB using a microSD card. The Nokia smartphone X20 is equipped with a 64 MP quad camera and ZEISS optics, 32 MP front camera, a Full HD+ display and the Qualcomm® Snapdragon(TM ) 480 5G Mobile Platform (6GB RAM / 128GB ROM) for outstanding performance and global 5G The Nokia X20 achieves a battery life of up to two days.
